Solar.
Gazing at the sun during sunrise or sunset (surya dristi) is an ancestral practice that has the effect of synchronizing our biorhythms with the rhythms of the cosmos, the radiance in our heart with that of the sun. The soft light at these sacred junctures allows our eyes to take in the full spectrum of light frequencies that the pineal gland requires for proper functioning.
The sun is the fire altar of our planetary life. As you gaze at it as it rises or sets, feel the rays reaching you from 93 million miles away and recognize that this is the source that generates and regenerates all life. Sun gazing is a meditation in itself that is practiced within yoga and around the world. As your eyes drink in the beauty of the moment, all other thought waves naturally rest. This is the state of namaskar, or bowing, to the extraordinary source of fire around which our lives literally revolve.
Solar Bhavana feeling the sun
Feel your own radiance, life-giving energy, and generosity, and all of the healing emotions that arise through that embodiment of the sun (the solar bhavana: joy, enthusiasm, connectedness, confidence, creative potency, and sustaining power).
Cosmic Breath circulating the inner sun
As you’re gazing upon the sun, you can draw solar prana into your heart with the breath. As you inhale, feel that radiance drawing into your body through the corresponding sandhyas, or sacred junctures:
Inhale the solar light
… from the crown of the head to your third eye.
… from the third eye center to the palate of the mouth.
… from the palate of the mouth to your throat center.
… from your throat center through to your heart center.
Bow your chin toward your heart and pause in kumbhaka (retaining the inhale without straining) and feel the space outside of time. Offer prayers, the simple mantra of Om or the solar mantra Om Hum Suraye Namaha. As you exhale, feel the solar breath return from the heart center back to the crown. Continue to breathe the light of the sun through the cycle of your breath within that space as offerings to the inner Heart Fire, then rest in meditation.

Solar cells
Right now, the light, the sun is at its peak. We just crossed over into the summer months and it is important to recognize that what’s going on in the collective, what’s going on in nature, is also something that we can tap into to elevate the energy inside of our bodies.
This is related to theory, which is that the five elements in nature: Air, space, earth, fire and water are the same elements that are in our own bodies. And so when we learn to tap into the energy, when we learn to ride the wave of energy that’s all around us, we can benefit enormously.
In this meditation, we are going to be consciously tuning into that outward, that external, that beautiful open energy, the solar yang energy, and this is the energy that we can use. We can harness it. We build it and we can harness it and direct it towards our creative endeavors, towards our health and our own healing, towards our relationships, whatever we desire. We want to cultivate that energy and bring it forward and then be able to work with it in a deeper way.
I’m so excited about this meditation today, and I can’t wait to hear how you do with it. Sending you so much love.
Namaste.
And now, let’s begin our meditation…
Guided Meditation
Go ahead and take a comfortable seat, either sitting on the ground with your legs crossed and your hips elevated on a meditation cushion, or if you prefer, sitting in a chair with your feet, nice and flat on the ground. Either way, just take a moment to adjust your spine, making sure that both shoulders are more or less evenly balanced and that your chin is parallel to the ground.
Shoulders should be over your hips. So there’s a nice lift to the spine, but the spine and the back and your whole body still feels nice and relaxed.
Take a few deep breaths settling into your seat now.
Starting to go inward, starting to close your eyes, just listen to my voice, reminding yourself that there’s nowhere else to go.
There’s nothing else to do, but just to be here now and to breathe.
Now on your next inhale, you’re going to start to lift both of your arms in front of you like you’re extending for someone’s hands, and continue up over your head.
As you exhale, you’re going to bring your hands down to your sides.
We’re sort of making this pattern of up and forward as we inhale and then letting your hands come down like a big circle, the big sun, big expansive solar energy.
And again, inhale, lifting your arms in front of you and up overhead, and then exhaling and letting them flare out like the radiant sun, and then come down to your side.
And again, inhaling and lifting all the way up and then exhaling and letting them come down. You can take this a few more rounds. You can go a little bit faster.
Sometimes I like to bring my hands down a little bit faster, or you can go really steady and really slow. It really depends on your energy right now and just what feels good in your body. When we open our arms out to the sides, I want you to feel this expansion of your energy, starting from you, and then moving out, the energy field expands in all directions.
One more round, wherever you are extending up and out, and then arms to the side, palms open, really feeling that energy pulsing through you and then outward and radiating beyond your physical delineation, I.E. your skin, and really just feeling that energy expand beyond.
Now coming to stillness, letting your hands rest on your knees or your thighs, palms facing up, feeling open and receptive.
Starting to take some really nice, full breaths, nice and deep, in and out through your nose. And notice that you can really pull in the energy, you can bring it in and expand the belly.
And as you’re doing that, you never have to tense your shoulders at all. There’s this beautiful opening and expansion that happens without rigidity, without any tension needed at all.
This is the time of year now to really tap into this expansive, beautiful solar yang energy that is available to us with the expansion of the sun and the sunlight. It is our opportunity to tap into that energy and to feel this potentiality that is always within us. This potential to feel fully energized in every cell of our being, in every cell of your body.
As you breathe, tune into that amazing, dynamic, aliveness that is present in every single cell of your entire being.
You can tune in down to your toes, to your knees, to your fingers, to the top of your head, everywhere, you will notice the sense of aliveness, this quality of dynamic movement and this beautiful solar energetic potential.
Setting the Intention for Today
This potential to tap into your creative power, this potential to follow your passions and your dreams, this potential to bring this dynamic aliveness to every moment of your life, to every interaction.
Feel and witness this incredible aliveness, as I say an affirmation out loud. You can say it along with me as you learn it, or you can just listen, whatever feels right to you.
I Am limitless energy.
I Am limitless energy.
I Am limitless energy.
I Am limitless energy.
Just keep tuning in, feeling this potential, this incredible potential all around us. This energy is always around us, and within us, and within every cell of our body.
What we focus on expands. As we focus on our aliveness and our energetic potential, we will be able to tap into more energy and to use it, and to channel it into all our passion in to all our pursuits and to all of our dreams.
Taking another deep, full breath. And a very long, luxurious, full exhale, feeling all that beautiful life force energy around you, through you.
You are energy and you are limitless energy.
Bringing your hands together and pray in front of your heart.
Taking a moment for gratitude for anything that rises up spontaneously.
I’m so grateful for this moment together, I’m so grateful to be on this path together.
Sending you so much love Beauty. Namaste. Om Shanti. Peace and love.

Find a good spot for meditation. Outdoors is a great spot for this kind of meditation since you can feel the energy of the sun directly. Indoors, you could just find a spot near a sunny window. Even if that is not possible, you can simply visualize the energy of the sun. You can sit in a traditional meditation posture such as a half-lotus posture, or you can sit in a chair if that is more comfortable.
Relax your body and mind. Take a couple of minutes to let the stresses of life leave your mind and for your muscles to relax before you begin. Bring your mind to the moment, letting go of the business of the day.
Chest breathing. Close your eyes and breathe consciously but naturally into the chest, relaxing your body more and more deeply.
Prepare your posture. Straighten your back and place your hands, palms up, on your thighs. Relax your shoulders and keep breathing deeply, but naturally. You should be able to imagine a straight line from the top of your head to the base of your spine.
Focus on the top of your head, Baekhwe. There is a very important energy point, called Baekhwe, that is at the very top of your head. When you were an infant, it was the part that was still soft and pliable. Through this point, you will be able to bring sunlight directly into your solar body. Try feeling the tingling sensation of energy at this point.
Feel the rays of the sun penetrating your head and shoulders. If you are sitting in sunlight, feel the warm rays literally penetrating your body. If you are not in direct sunlight, recall that feeling from times you have been out in the sunshine.
Visualize the sunlight filling up your solar body. As you focus on that feeling of the sun’s rays, imagine that those rays are filling up your body’s energy system. See an aura of golden sunlight surrounding your body and becoming brighter and brighter.
Slowly awaken to the world around you. After five to ten minutes, slowly return your consciousness to the outer world. Most likely, your surroundings will seem brighter and happier, and your body will feel youthful and energized.

You can certainly call me a sun worshiper. Being born on the Summer Solstice, I have always been attracted to the warmth, power and glow of the sun!
The sun has been prayed to, worshiped and adored for thousands of years. It is the center of our lives on earth and we would not exist without it! What better way to start your day by offering your intention outward to the Universe or with the last rays of the setting sun in the evening to give thanks.
Using a crystal as a meditation tool is a practice I have had for over 30 years. Introduced to me by my yoga teacher, Deva Inglesia Germana and reinforced over the years by several other, dear mentors, including Jean Claude Van Itallie and Zachary Selig, it is a wonderful way to empower your intentions. Consider using one or all of these stones:
Sunstone
This stone is a kiss of sunshine, crystallized. Honors the God, brings good luck and fortune. Energizes and empowers one’s self. Warms the heart and lifts/rejuvenates the spirit. Sunstone is used for protection, life force, and grounding. Sunstone is a great stone to use with “energy vampires”, or those who drain your energy from you. This includes parents, children, lovers, patients, bosses or anyone who is possessive, aggressive or overbearing. Sunstone breaks these bonds and allows light, separation and clarity from these energies. This stone clears and brightens both the entire Chakra and unbounds the Aura. Sunstone does great justice when placed on our power center or Solar Plexus Chakra. Sunstone is a great stone to relieve stress and overcome fear.
Citrine
Citrine energizes every level of the aura, cleansing and balancing the subtle bodies as it aligns it with the physical body. Citrine crystals are invigorating and positive. Helps steer us in a positive direction. Used for mental and emotional clarity. Considered the merchant stone, citrine is very versatile and is used for mental and emotional clarity, problem solving, memory issues, will power, optimism, confidence and self-discipline. It reduces anxiety, fear and depression. An energizing crystal, citrine absorbs, transmutes, grounds and dissolves negative energy, which makes it a very protective stone. Citrine crystals are invigorating and positive.
Yellow Calcite
Also called Golden Caclite, is a stone that boosts overall energy levels in a peaceful, gentle manner. Yellow calcite increases strength and health. It stimulates the intellect. It can help organize intellectual thoughts and information and is used by people who meditate because the color is linked to the Solar Plexus Chakra, sun and light. It is also an important stone for astral projection. It has been used for centuries as folk remedies for treating the spine, bones and as a detoxification of the kidneys, pancreas and spleen. In the bath, Egyptians used it for decalcifying joints. Use this stone to boost life energy and to encourage will power.
Tiger’s Eye
The stone for bringing more luck into your life, Tiger’s Eye is the most recognized for attracting money, psychic protection, courage, confidence, willpower, clear thinking and speaking to show us the personal power in life that we have. Very versatile for the Solar Plexus Chakra, Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra. The root of our intuition is from our Solar Plexus. The “gut feeling” is what’s considered the root, while our Third Eye receives the vision.
These unique stones are full of sun and a bright spot in anyone’s day. You can lay on the floor with this stone at your solar plexus or two inches below! These power centers embrace your own radiance and light, our encouraging and empowering centers and help bring a sense of awareness through knowing our selves and sparking our intuition.
You can sit in a comfortable position on the floor, ground or in a chair. Face the sun, in order to feel the warmth (and promise) on your face. Hold your stone in your dominant hand with the other hand underneath it. If you are using two stones, hold one in each hand. If you are using 3-4, place them in a circle around you.
Create a meditation circle on the floor, your meditation space or yoga mat. Anoint each crystal with a “sunny essential oil such as orange, lemon, bergamot or sunflower oil. Invoke each direction by creating a circle with the 4 stones. Invoke the 4 elements by placing crystals in a circle in each direction, starting from the east, south, west and moving in a clockwise direction ending with the north.
“Stones in circle round, give peace,
Quiet, calming, great release.
To bring about a welcome change,
To meditate and then exchange,
The flow of love and light and such,
To find what serves me very much.”
Close your eyes and breath in deep, exhaling as if you were breathing life into your stone. This sense of regeneration, stimulates yourself and your stone. The exchange is the power you take from the stone engaging your core! It is like a battery volting back and forth between your body’s energy and the living presence of the crystal. Take as much as you need and recharge.
Whether it is the morning sun, full of promise or the setting sun, with grace and thanks… give your attention to it. Feel its power and energy. It is the second most powerful force we can sense in the Universe.
With each deep breath, bring the power of your intention to your Solar Plexus Chakra. This power center is our greatest force of movement and motivation. It is from here that we gain our will power. Breathe into this energy center. Sense your connection between the crystals around you and the center just below your heart.
Expand and contract as you inhale and exhale. Take in the sun’s rays and exhale out the negative thoughts.
Release, as the sun releases. Expand as the sun expands.
Take as much as you need and recharge.
When you are ready to finish your meditation, simply (and slowly) bring your focus back to behind your eyelids. Sense your surroundings as they come back to you and slowly open your eyes.
I always recommend journaling about your experience. Include any references that may have come up so you can look them up later.
If you walk for a while as you take in some sunshine, you will feel the noisy chatter of thoughts in your head gradually quieting down.
After walking, face the sun and sit with your lower back straight. Place your hands on your knees, palms facing up, and relax your chest and shoulders. Close your eyes and smile very slightly.
Enjoy the sunlight pouring down on your whole body. Imagining your body to be a solar panel, visualize receiving and being charged with energy. Move your awareness down your body—from face to shoulders, arms, chest, abdomen, and legs—imagining warm sunshine melting each part in turn.
Lifting your head slightly, commune with the solar energy shining down on your face. As you very slowly turn your head from side to side, try to feel the colors of light changing before your closed eyes. When you face the sun you’ll sense a bright golden light, and when you turn slightly to the side you’ll perceive oranges and reds. Commune with the solar energy in the colors.
Stop moving your head and receive the solar energy coming into your face, into your whole body. Store it in your lower abdomen—in your “energy center.” Keep visualizing as you feel your lower abdomen growing warmer. End the training when you feel that your whole body, including fingers and toes, has been warmed sufficiently.

Solar Meditation
The day starts as the golden sun appears in the eastern skies. The blue, golden skies invite us to start the day cheerfully. The early hour bird‘s hymns spread the beauty of the life.
The art of living is taught to us freely by the nature. In that morning glory let us do a small meditation to refresh our selves
Sit in a meditative position, spine straight, body relaxed. Observe the breath. While inhaling feel the golden sun rays entering into your body through breath and filling your whole body with solar energies and think that you are breathing health and peace into your life. While exhaling feel that you are exhaling all negative energies, diseases, stress and worries as black smoke. All the dirt compiled in the body is expelled and assume
nature is transforming all black negative energies into pink colour love and light energies. Do continue this breathing exercise for 10 minutes.
Slowly concentrate on the heart centre. Assume golden Sun there. Feel the golden sun is just growing in size and covering whole of your body. Now your body is filled with golden sun energies. Feel the divine golden energies. Now your energy levels are raised
Then visualize the energies of the golden ball is covering all your seven auras.
We all know that this physical system has seven auras surrounding our body. Now you are surrounded by the divine golden energies. Return back to your heart. Affirm that “You are divine and God resides in your bodyâ€. Stay in that state for a while and slowly open your eyes. Gently rub your palms and place them over your eyes. Open your eyes. Feel the divine love in your life. Return back to your routine work, thanking almighty for being with you always.

With the world buzzing with fast-paced technologies and the incessant chatter of daily life, finding tranquility has become a sought-after treasure. Amidst this quest, a unique, yet profoundly ancient practice emerges from the shadows – Solar Meditations. It’s about tapping into the immeasurable power of the sun to fuel your spiritual journey, all from the comfort of wherever you choose to meditate. So, how do you start, and what makes it so enticing? Accessibility: Here’s the kicker – you don’t need to be in the Himalayas or some exotic locale to practice. Whether it’s a sunny spot in your living room or a quiet park, as long as you can imagine the sun’s energy, you’re all set.
Getting Started with Solar Meditations
So, you’re revved up to try, but where do you start? Here’s a quick guide to get the ball rolling:

Visualize: Close your eyes and imagine the sun’s rays bathing you in warm, radiant light. Feel its energy cleansing and reinvigorating every part of your being.
Breathe: Inhale deeply, drawing in the sun’s vitality. Exhale slowly, releasing any stress or negativity. Repeat this process, letting each breath deepen your connection.
Reflect: Contemplate the qualities of the sun – its warmth, its constant presence, its resilience. Think about how you can embody these qualities in your daily life.
Conclude with Gratitude: Always end your session by expressing gratitude to the sun for its life-giving energy. A simple, heartfelt thank you will do.

Five-Minute Solar Meditation
November 18, 2014
Ilchi Lee
The sun is always there, giving the earth energy. Without it, life on earth would not be possible. Human beings need the sun for our health, happiness, and peace.
You have the natural capacity to tap into the sun’s energy and fill your energy body with it at anytime. There’s enough for everyone; we don’t have to compete for it. In the same way, we don’t have to compete for or feel lack of health, happiness, and peace in our lives.
The Solar Body Method helps you utilize the energy of the sun. Today, I will show you how to receive solar energy directly. I encourage you to practice this meditation outdoors in the sunlight.
First, stand or sit and close your eyes. Lift both hands above your head and hold your palms toward the sun. Touch your thumbs together and your index fingers together to form a triangle. The most sensitive part of our bodies is our hands. With your palms facing the sun, receive solar energy through your palms. You receive energy simply by concentrating on your palms. Feel the heat of the sun there. You can also imagine the sun’s energy coming into you through your palms.
With your imagination, move the solar energy that came in through your hands to your arms, shoulders, and all the way to your chest. As you visualize that warmth spreading from your chest, past your stomach, and all the way down into your the energy center in your lower abdomen, your Dahnjon, charge your Dahnjon with solar energy. The Dahnjon is an energy charging station.
Now, bring your hands down by your chest, keeping your palms facing the sun. As time passes, you’ll feel your palms becoming hotter and you’ll feel yourself becoming connected with the energy of the sun.
Slowly shake your head left and right, and observe the colors of the light in front of your eyes changing. Depending on the angle, you’ll see gold, you’ll see orange, and you may also see red.
Now, slowly bring your chin down, then bring it back up again, repeatedly nodding your head. As you repeat this movement, keep bringing the solar energy that came in through your face down into your Dahnjon and charge it.
Do you feel your body growing warmer? It is changing to the temperature of passion.
There’s no need to practice this training for a long period of time. Five to ten minutes will suffice.
Try this meditation and let me know how you felt during and after doing it. Did you feel as warm and bright as the sun?
